You’ve likely seen us use the phrase “deep tones” in describing a dominant theme of our Fall Collection. But what exactly are deep tones, and why do we place so much emphasis on them in this particular season? Well, a deep tone is pretty much what it sounds like: the tone (or color) is deep (or dark); this is in comparison to other seasons when we have pastels, jewel tones, and other such groupings of colors. Some of the most popular and unique deep tones are plum, mulberry, sage, merlot, brown, olive, navy, indigo, and burgundy. We’ll take you through the Fall ’16 Collection and recommend a few of our top styles in deep tones.
If you’re looking for a truly standout piece that encapsulates the season in its color and texture, why not try the Cabernet Pure Wool Sport Coat? This 100% wool jacket is weighted for Fall and Winter wear and is casual enough to be paired with a dress or sport shirt for any number of occasions. Similarly versatile is the eternally wearable Black & Camel Plaid Pure Wool Sport Coat. Looking for something a little fancier or of a lighter weight? The Merlot Pure Wool Sport Coat and the Indigo Pure Wool Sport Coat are both excellent deep tone alternatives.
One of course cannot forget about another undeniably essential aspect of any outfit… pants. Our popular Comfort-Luxe Italian Wool Twill Pleated Front Solid Pants now come in new shades merlot and olive, perfect for Fall. The Pure Wool Donegal Pleated Pants, too, are an essential Fall style, and you can embrace deep tones with eggplant and chestnut. If you’re looking for a more everyday color with a bit of pop, try our Wool & Cashmere Flat Front Pants or the Pleated Front version in indigo. Speaking of blue, suit up for the season with the Navy & Denim Blue Plaid Pure Wool Flannel Suit Separates.
Now that we have addressed the biggest pieces, let’s talk about the details. We’ve already talked about some of our favorite colors in dress shirts; additional highlights include the 2-Ply Cotton Satin Grid Spread Collar French Cuff Dress Shirt in plum, the 2-Ply Cotton Satin Stripe Straight Collar Dress Shirt in sage, and the 2-Ply Windowpane Spread Collar Dress Shirt in navy.
Or maybe it’s your day off and you’d like to wear something more casual, but still in theme with the season. How about one of our deep tone sport shirts, possibly paired with a matching Silk, Cotton & Cashmere Sweater? The 100% Cotton Buffalo Plaid Hidden Button Down Sport Shirt is a delightful smorgasbord of a few of our favorite Fall colors. The 100% Cotton Stripe Jermyn Street Collar Sport Shirt is a subtler style in a deep red and black pattern, while the 100% Cotton Stripe Hidden Button Down Collar Sport Shirt stripes it up in black and rich blue.
Of course, you can accessorize in deep tones, too! In fact, if you’re a more conservative dresser, deep tone accessories can be a great way to incorporate a touch of Fall into your look. Choose how bold you’re willing to go, from subtle interest with the purple Enamel Knot Cufflink to the semi-precious deep blue Sodalite Oval Cufflink, to the glittering burgundy Swarovski Crystal Rectangle Cufflink. Not a cufflink wearer? Perhaps a pocket square like the wine Italian Silk Dots Silk Pocket Square or the navy Italian Silk Paisley Silk Pocket Square will do.
Let’s go back to the basics! Deep tones in our shoe category involve a variety of loafers, oxfords, and more. The Wyatt Tassel Loafer, resplendent in blue suede, is one such contender. A dressier alternative could be the Tristan Double Monk Strap in wine. Many of these styles have a coordinating belt, so we encourage you to make the shopping process even easier by taking advantage of this exclusive match!
Have we convinced you of the merit of deep tones? We’re looking forward to seeing what looks you come up with!
