When it comes to business dress, suits are supposed to be your big investment and ties are your “personal statement.” That leaves dress shirts as one of the things boring dressers pay little attention to, never venturing beyond the safe boundary of blue and white, while stylish dressers relish choosing shirts with the same care they choose a handmade silk tie or rakish double-breasted suits in a Prince of Wales plaid.
And with dozens of colors and patterns to choose from, there’s no reason why selecting your shirts can’t be the most fun you get out of procuring your clothing from Paul Fredrick.
After color and pattern, a shirt’s most distinguishing mark is its collar. Here’s where the fun of dressing really kicks in: straight, button down, spread, club, tab — we’ve got ‘em all. Different collar styles add more variety to dressing than you might think, and offer all sorts of mixing options on the formality scale. Why not wear a formal spread collar with jeans and a blazer, or a button down collar under a v-neck sweater? After all, this is what guys with signature style do all the time.
When it comes to cuffs, just as everyone should know a little bit of French (and visit Paris), every guy should own at least one French cuff dress shirt, if only to wear with your dad’s or grandpa’s cufflinks you’ve got stashed in a box somewhere.
And while all our shirts are 100 percent cotton, all cotton is not the same. We’ve got hardier fabrics like perennially preppy Pinpoint Oxford, and Imperial 100’s Broadcloth to pair with your sleekest suits. And for those who want the look and feel of a richly silken fabric, we offer connoisseurs our superfine Luxury 140’s Broadcloth.
And the choices don’t stop there. We’ve got a non-iron finish for those who prize convenience and a spic-and-span appearance all day. Edge stitching for European flair? We’ve got that, too. And when it comes to cut, choose from regular, slim fit, plus big and tall sizes with a fuller body and a longer tail. And if you think you need to be rock-star skinny for the slim fit shirts, give one a try and you may be surprised. The contoured fit lets you move your arms freely without pulling your shirt untucked.
After all, tough workdays require removing your jacket and rolling up your sleeves to get the job done — so let everyone see your well-chosen shirt.

This is all great information, but does not tell me what style is best for me. It would be good to have information to tell what styles are best for which body types.
August 22, 2011 at 9:17 am
Great question, Rick!
The style of shirt that you select has more to do with your face shape, rather than your body type. Selecting a collar style is largely a matter of personal taste. There are a few things, however, to consider. Your collar should counterbalance your facial structure. If you are tall and lean with a thin face, a straight collar will further accentuate those features. To balance out these physical features, a spread collar would be the optimal choice. Conversely, a spread collar will accentuate a round face, while a straight collar provides more balance.
We hope this was helpful! If we can be of any further assistance, please let us know.

I’ve been buying from PF for a long time now and you can find styles and fits that would fit (no pun intented) anyone. From solids to italian style shirts, I’ve given up going to big name stores like Nordstrom or Saks, for quality shirtings and almost perfect sizing from PF. Keep up the good work!!!

I an 69 years old and have been wearing suits for most of my life. In the late 50′ and early 60’s we all wore suits when we dated. Throughtout those many years it has been extremely difficult to find shirts that fit correctly without going to a tailor. I just bought two from PF and was delighted to get the specific collar, sleeve length, etc. You have me hooked.

Unfortunately Joseph, we do not offer these sizes in our off-the-shelf dress shirts, however we do have a solution for you. At Paul Fredrick, we create custom shirts individually to your exact specifications. We offer these shirts with collar sizes ranging from 14″ to 22″ and sleeves lengths from 28″ to 40″. These shirts offer you the opportunity to customize the body length, the body fit (Regular versus Trim Fit), collar, cuff, placket, pleat, pocket and stitching styles and as with all of our dress shirts, monogramming is also an available option. The process generally takes approximately 4-5 weeks from the date purchased to the arrival at your door. We are confident that you will be delighted with your new custom shirt.
All options for our custom made shirts, including fabrics is available on our website.

Have a few PF shirts. Very nice and well made. The only thing holding me back from purchasing more is the cuff choice.
Quite a few shirts I would like to buy if it had the cuff I wanted. I find a shirt and collar but it is french cuff. Why can’t you offer the same shirt with choice of cuffs?
I now tend to purchase from CT which offers the choice.
